Trade Secrets

About This Practice Area

We have substantial experience in trade secret litigation, including seeking and obtaining emergency relief for businesses seeking to protect their trade secrets. Trade secrets can include almost any secret that gives a business a competitive advantage, including customer lists, formulas, product plans, and financial data. They often arise in the employer/ex-employee context, when an employer wants to prevent a former employee from using a company's trade secret. We can assist you in either protecting your trade secrets or defending you if you are accused of misappropriating a trade secret.

Representative Matters

We represented a sports league whose thousands of customer contacts was wrongfully taken and used by a former partner in the business who started a competing league. We immediately obtained a preliminary injunction against the former partner. We were later successful in an arbitration before the American Arbitration Association. After a full hearing in arbitration, we obtained a permanent injunction against the former partner and obtained a substantial award of monetary damages even though our client did not lose any customers to defendants' competing business.

We represented a company whose former employees left the company and took the company's documents. Our client sued the former employees. We obtained injunctive relief, including a court order that the employees return the documents to the company. The case eventually settled, in which our client obtained a permanent injunction and monetary damages.

We initially used one of the biggest law firms in Atlanta to handle our litigation matters. A few years ago we decided to move our efforts to the Robbins Firm. The Robbins Firm lawyers can easily compete with litigators at any of the big firms. They have greatly exceeded our expectations and achieved a great result for us in a trade secret dispute.

The Robbins Firm saved our business from a threatened takeover. In particular, we worked with Alexa Ross and her strategy was dead-on. She was reassuring to us, but to the other side, she is a man-eating, nail-spitting, power-player. We credit Alexa's legal expertise and negotiation savvy in the favorable outcome of our case.
