Robbins Firm Attorneys Help State of Georgia Reach Settlement Agreement with the United States

We represented the State of Georgia in a dispute with the United States as to whether the State of Georgia complied with certain requirements of a 2010 Settlement Agreement. In 2010, the United States sued the State of Georgia for alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Civil Rights for Institutionalized Persons Act.  This lawsuit led to a settlement Agreement that avoided direct federal control of the state services at issue.  In January 2016, the United States filed a motion alleging that the State of Georgia failed to comply with certain requirements in the 2010 Settlement Agreement.  We were successful in reaching an agreement that reflected many of the strategic priorities of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
