Governor names three former staffers to Judicial Nominating Commission.

Gov. Nathan Deal on Tuesday named three of his former staffers to the Judicial Nomination Commission, which recommends candidates for the governor to consider when filling open judgeships.

Deal named Ryan Teague, David Werner and Thomas Worthy to the panel.

Teague, who was Deal’s executive counsel from 2011 until this year, is a lawyer at Robbins Ross Alloy Belinfante Littlefield.

Werner replaced Teague as Deal’s top lawyer, then decamped to become director of state and local government relations at Delta Air Lines.

Worthy worked for Deal from 2011 until 2014, then spent two years as director of government relations for the State Bar of Georgia. In 2016, he became vice president for government and external affairs for Piedmont Healthcare.

The panel is co-chaired by Randy Evans of Dentons and Pete Robinson of Troutman Sanders. Evans’ nomination to become U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg is pending.
