Firm Helps Client Obtain Georgia’s First Ever Certificate of Need for a Freestanding Emergency Department

Today, Robbins Firm attorneys Josh Belinfante and Dan Monahan helped Doctors Hospital of Augusta (a subsidiary of Hospital Corporation of America) secure the first ever Certificate of Need for a freestanding emergency department (FSED) to be issued by the Georgia Department of Community Health. 

Doctors Hospital of Augusta overcame all opposition to its application, demonstrating need for additional emergency departments in the service area and an absence of existing alternatives to its proposed services.  The FSED will be a satellite facility of the hospital’s main campus and is set to be constructed in Columbia County, where there are currently no hospitals or emergency departments.
