Michael is an experienced litigator who has represented clients in a wide variety of cases, both as plaintiffs and defendants. He also has substantial state and federal experience at both the trial court and appellate levels, giving him unique insights into how decision making throughout a case can have an impact both now and in the future.
Michael has represented clients in connection with a wide variety of employment‑related issues, including discrimination, retaliation, wage-and-hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (including collective actions), restrictive covenant agreements, and severance negotiations. He has also helped companies navigate various employment‑related matters to help reduce the risk of future litigation by their employees. Michael has also represented clients in cases involving fraudulent transfers worth millions of dollars, partnership disputes, commercial contract disputes, Georgia RICO, and defamation, among others.
Michael understands that no two cases are alike, and he approaches each case with an eye toward effectively and efficiently achieving his clients’ unique goals. As a result, in addition to litigation, Michael is a strong proponent of alternative dispute‑resolution options, including direct negotiations, mediation, and arbitration, which often provide a faster and most cost-effective way to resolve a case. As an example, Michael was able to negotiate an agreement between two competing companies that not only avoided lengthy and costly litigation but also resulted in a lucrative multi‑year business agreement between the companies. He has also successfully mediated bitterly contested disputes on numerous occasions.
Michael lives with his wife, Kate, and his daughter, Harper, in Lilburn, Georgia. He’s a huge UGA football fan, an avid reader of sci-fi and fantasy, a life-long Magic: the Gathering player, and an annual attendee of DragonCon
